Subject: League Promotional Information And Application
Thanks for the interest you have expressed in the Southwest Ohio League. We are pleased to provide you the following information, which we hope will answer most of the questions you may have regarding The League for select baseball in Greater Cincinnati.
Larry Redwine founded the Southwest Ohio League in the late fall of 1984. The Leagues origin was six teams in the 16 year old age level. In 2001 we registered 288 teams in eleven age levels. (This has taken place despite the fact that there has been no promotional effort to assist in league growth.). Membership is selective, but may not be discriminatory. Teams who play their games within the following counties are eligible for consideration as members: The Ohio Counties of Hamilton, Butler, Warren, Clermont, Brown and Montgomery; Kentucky Counties of Kenton, Campbell and Boone; as well as Dearborn and Ripley Counties in Indiana. Other counties may be considered on a limited age level by age level basis.
LEAGUE PHILOSOPHY: The Southwest Ohio League seeks merely to provide the most advantageous format whereby youth in the Greater Cincinnati area may play at the highest level of amateur baseball in the nation. We feel this format will provide them the best possible opportunity to prepare for successful high school competition, as well as to compete for college scholarships. This league is totally player oriented and motivated. There will never be an attempt to undermine the great foundation laid by community programs or knothole baseball. They are important to the youth we serve. We simply appeal to the sector of the baseball community that wishes to be pushed by competition to be their very best. We are not simply attempting to provide a travel league. A simple travel league by its nature could be of no value whatsoever. Instead, we seek to develop the most competitive select league in America. |
